
EPRI is one of the institutes affiliated to thenational Ministry for Scientific Research. The objectives of the Institute as stated by a Presidential Decree in 1974 are to supply the petroleum industry with technical and applied research for its development as well as contract research and services. The Institute is headed by a chairman who is also chairman of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and by a director.

According to the Presidential Decree is to supply the national oil industry with studies and applied research works in the various branches of the industry, to participate in its development and find solutions to its technical problems both short and long term.To fulfil these objectives, the Presidential Decree stipulated the oil Sector to have 50% representation on EPRI’s Board of Directors held by top ranking officials nominated by the Minister of Petroleum.EPRI found itself integrally involved in the problems and mechanisms of the National Oil Industry and at the same time not cut off from the Research Community, being one of the research institutes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Technology.
