This Department has diversified Research Experience in the field of Analytical and petroleum chemistry. This Department is one of seven Department included in Egyptian Petroleum research Institute (EPRI), It has a multifaceted function which include evaluation of petroleum crude oils through detailed and through chemical analysis and assessment of its physical characetristics. The Department is equipped with all required facilities that needed for that purpose. Although the main function of this department is the crude evaluation, however it is involved in various fields related to the petroleum industry, among which is the environmental pollution, and corrosion coutvel in the aria of oil industry.

This Department include three main Laboratories:

1-Chromatography Laboratory

The activities of this department are diversified and have a main role in the analysis and assessment of crude oil and its products as well as in the area of marine pollution by oil .

2- Petroleum testing  Laboratory

This department is the most important one in the area of oil industry .The main objective of this department is to

apply  the standard test Methods to evaluate the crude oil and its products such as distillation , viscosity , . . ..ect.

3-Spectroscopy:

This department include: X.Ray techniques, infrared, and ultraviolet-visible (UV/VIS) techniques. These techniques aid in the process of evaluation of crud oil and its products.

New at Analysis and Evaluation Department:

Inductively Coupled Plasma

Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) used as an excitation source of atomic emission spectral analysis of major, minor, trace, elements and heavy metals.

Application Fields:

       - Libracant and processing oil.

       - Drilling and formation water.

       - Source and reservoir rocks.

       - Sediments and soil.

       - Foods and blood.

*Recent ICP is used in metallurgy to evaluate the purity degree of alloys as well as its impurity percent, also, to evaluate the efficiency of scale inhibitor in oil wells.
